| Abstract | This study aimed to examine the coaching styles of professional soccer coaches, analyze the relationships between these coaching styles and basic psychological needs, and predict factors influencing the success of professional soccer players. There are 32 coaches and 194 professional soccer players from professional football clubs in Thailand, for a total of 226 people, selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the questionnaires which revised, and reliability tested coefficients: 1) coaching style was (r = 0.685), 2) response to basic psychological needs was (r = 0.652), and 3) sports success was (r = 0.632). Descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations, were used for data analysis. Hypotheses were tested using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings indicated that perceived ability, perceived freedom in decision-making, and perceived interaction with others were positively associated with the sports success of professional soccer players at the .01 level of statistical significance (r = .455, r = .445, and r = .427, respectively). Utilizing the two predictor variables with the highest raw scores, it was found that perceptions of ability and freedom in decision-making significantly influenced the success of professional football players (p < .01). These factors explained 29.30% of the variance in sports success (Adjusted R² = .293, F = 25.573, p < .001). In conclusion, perceptions of ability and freedom in decision-making are critical predictors of the success of professional soccer players. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating these factors into coaching strategies to enhance the effectiveness and performance outcomes of professional athletes. |
