Abstract The purpose of this researchwas to study and compare the effects of high-intensity interval training combined with abdominal training (HIIT and Abdominal) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on body fat and waist to hip ratio. There were twenty overweight females(age29.8±3.14 y, weight69.88±4.15kgand height160.1±4.31 cm) divided into two groups by match pair, high-intensity interval training combined with abdominal training(n=10) and high-intensity interval training groups(n=10). The participants performed exercises three times per week for six weeks. The amount of body fat percentage,trunk fat percentage, the sum of abdominal skinfold (abdominal skinfold site,suprailiac skinfold site, and iliac crest skinfold site),waist circumstance, hip circumstance and waist to hip ratio were measured before and after training.Data were analyzed by using meanand standard deviation. Analyzes included pre and post-test differences within group using paired t-test and between groups using an independent t-test with level of significance 0.05. The results showedthat the body fat percentage significantly decreased (P<0.05) following training in both HIIT and Abdominal and HIIT groups. However, the sum of abdominal skinfold, waist circumference and waist to hip ratio were significantly decreased (P<0.05) only in HIIT and Abdominal group after training as compared to before training. Also, differences were found in abdominal skinfold site between HIIT and Abdominal and HIIT groups (P<0.05). In conclusion, both HIIT and Abdominal and HIIT for six weeks have a similar effect to reduce the body fat percentage. However, the high-intensity interval training combined with abdominal training was more effective in reducing abdominal skinfoldthicknessthan high-intensity interval training alone
