Abstract The purposes of this research were 1) to compare the achievement before and after studying science of Mathayom II students being taught using science based on science, technology and society, 2) to find out the percentage of the students whose scores are 70% or above, and 3) to compare the student's problem solving abilities in science of Mathayom II students being taught using science based on science, technology and society. The samples were from thirty-six Mathayom II students in the first semester of academic year 2012 at Banglai Pitthayakhom school in Bung Narang District, Phichit Province. The samples were selected by cluster random sampling. The instruments used in the research were 1) lesson plans using science based on science, technology and society 2) the science achievement test with 30 items, 4 multiple choices, with degree of difficulty from 0.30 - 0.60, the discrimination power from 0.43 - 0.76, and reliability coefficient of 0.91, and 3) the problem solving abilities test with 30 items, 4 multiple choices, with degree of difficulty from 0.21 - 0.83, the discrimination power from 0.24 - 0.67, and reliability coefficient of 0.79. The research findings were as follows: 1.Students being taught science by using science based on science, technology and society achieved a higher score in the posttest at the .05 level of significance. 2. 70 percent of students being taught science by using science based on science, technology and society obtained scores significantly at 70% or above at the .05 level. 3.Student's problem solving abilities in science through the use of science based on science, technology and society after being taught was higher than those before being taught at the .05 level of significance.
