| Abstract | The purposes of this research were 1) to study problems and needs of instruction in chemistry on stoichiometry of tenth-grade students, and 2) to study needs of instruction in chemistry on stoichiometry of tenth-grade students. The research was divided into 2 groups; Group 1, employing a qualitative approach, comprised 7 key informants chosen through purposive sampling, participating in focus group discussions. Group 2, employing quantitative approach, comprised of 132 tenth-grade students in the second semester of the 2023 academic year in a school at Ratchaburi province, selected by simple random sampling. The research tools used including focus group discussion guidelines and the structured questionnaires. The reliability coefficient was 0.969. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, mean, percentage, and standard deviation. The results revealed that 1) the problems of the extensive content of chemistry cannot be managed within the designated curriculum instruction time. Students lacked responsibility for studying the content in advance before entering the classroom and linking knowledge with daily life. Although the instructional activity were well designed, the acquired knowledge was not effectively applied. Students also lacked of skills in using scientific experimental equipment and self-learning through online media. It was necessary for students to study the content in advance on their own by using new technologies, focusing on practical activities, and using online media to enhance understanding of abstract chemistry concepts and the various methods and tools for measurement and evaluation were also needed to designed. and 2) The need for instruction in chemistry on stoichiometry of tenth-grade students, was high in all four aspects ( = 4.06, S.D. = 0.93), including content, instruction, learning media and measurement and evaluation. |
