| Abstract | Hopea thorelii Pierre is a tree plant in the family Dipterocarpaceae. It is narrow distribution and is classified as a critically endangered species. It is usually propagated from seeds; however, this method is limited by low productivity Plant tissue culture is an important technique to provide rapid plant propagation. Hence, this research aimed to study the effects of N6-benzyladenine (BA), naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) on the growth of the embryo axis of Hopea thorelii Pierre in vitro. Embryo axis of three-month-old fruits collected from Ubon Ratchathani Zoo were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing combinations of 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 mg/l BA with 0, 0.1, and 1 mg/l IBA or NAA for 8 weeks. The results showed that MS medium supplemented with 4 mg/l BA + 0.1 mg/l IBA and 1 mg/l BA led to the highest number of shoots (1.4 and 1.2 shoots/embryo, respectively). These results are essential information that might be useful for the subsequent research of H. thorelii Pierre tissue culture. |
