| Abstract | Solid waste landfills can have negative impacts on the environment. One of the primary concerns is the potential for water contamination, as leachate (a liquid that has percolated through the waste) can potentially contaminate groundwater and surface water sources. Landfills can take up large amounts of land, which can impact wildlife, and wildlife habitat and cause other land use conflicts. This study aims to find a suitable area for the sanitary solid waste landfill in the Eastern of Phayao by applying the Geographic Information System (GIS). Rules and standards from Pollution Control Department (PCD) were applied to allocate a suitable area. Results show that the most suitable area in Eastern Phayao amounts 637 sq. km. or 398,380 rai is 16% of the study area. There is valuable information for planning and decision-making in solid waste landfill selection. Local Administrative Organizations and related organizations use the results as a source of information to support and help the urban planner or decision maker to understand a location deeply. |
