Abstract This classroom action research aimed to find out good teaching practices in the argument-driven inquiry (ADI) in Biology course that can develop tenth graders’ scientific reasoning ability. The participants were a class of 32 students from a public high school in Bangkok Metropolis. Data were obtained from the scientific reasoning test, teacher’s reflective journal, video-recorded of classroom instructions, students’ reflective journal, and students’ worksheets. Data were analyzed by using content analysis and inductive analysis. Finding revealed that the good teaching practices of the ADI which provided positive impact on the participants’ scientific reasoning ability were: (1) the use of data table for promoting students’ ‘identifying patterns from data’; and (2) a systematic order of argument topics for practicing ‘hypothetical-deductive reasoning’. The study also found that more than 70% of students were in the complete level of scientific reasoning ability after learning through the ADI.
