| Abstract | This research article aims to study the concept of Phra Sivali, 2) to study beliefs in Theravada Buddhism, and 3) to analyze beliefs about Phra Sivali in Theravada Buddhism. It is qualitative research through document research. It focuses on providing knowledge and understanding the beliefs about Phra Sivalī in Theravada Buddhism.The results reveal that 1) concept of Phra Sivali arises from belief in matters of fortune. People hope for success by worshiping and asking for the power of Phra Sivalī. According to the history of Phra Sivali, it is said that Phra Sivalī Thera was an Arahant who has the power of good fortune. People who worship him will receive the results of peacefulness and happiness with wealth. 2) Belief in Theravada Buddhism does not make people obsessed with anything. It supports people to believe based on cause and effect or has to consist of the five Upasaka Dharmas which are as follows: (1) having faith, (2) having precepts, (3) do not hold auspicious news, believe in karma, (4) do not seek merit outside of this teaching, that is, do not seek merit outside of the principles of Buddhism, and (5) do your primary support for this religion, that is, strive to provide support and nourishment of Buddhism. 3) Analysis of beliefs about Phra Sivali in Theravada Buddhism consists of three aspect: (1) Phra Sivali with fortune: it is believed that worshipping him will bring fortune because of the encouragement to make merit and the result of doing so will be fortune later, 2) Phra Sivali with Karma: in a past life, Phra Sivali had done good deeds which resulted in good results in this life. So, doing good deeds brings good results; and 3) Phra Sivali with happiness and success: faith makes one listen to sermons and Dhamma. It is also believed that Phra Sivali also gives precepts and blessings until one is prosperous with wealth from trading, money flows in, and filled with successfulness. |
