| Abstract | This research article has three primary objectives: to study the concepts of Dฤna, to examine the giving of material goods as found in the Vimฤnavatthu, and to analyze the value and merit of Dฤna as depicted in the Vimฤnavatthu through content analysis.The findings of the research indicate that the Vimฤnavatthu, a scripture of Theravฤda Buddhism, discusses the practice of Dฤna in terms of its benefits to individuals and society. Dฤna is presented as a fundamental virtue that elevates people to a higher moral level. As a core component of society, Dฤna fosters a just and harmonious community. Without the practice of Dฤna, a society may become marked by competition and a lack of courtesy, leading to widespread unhappiness. Therefore, it is essential for individuals to engage in acts of sacrifice, generosity, compassion, and mutual assistance. Dฤna promotes living together peacefully, which is a basic principle for a harmonious society. |
