| Abstract | This study aims to figure out the impacts of urban government and governance in Thailand, a highly centralized state and a late decentralized state, on Ubon Ratchatani City. The study finds that urban governance in Ubon Ratchatani City has largely been controlled by the Thai state. Up to now, the state has paid more attention to state security and economic development than on people participation in urban governance. As a result, most resources have been allocated in Ubon Ratchatani City, which makes the city become a primate city and a centralized city. Moreover urban development does not correspond with urban resident’s needs and wants, resulting in greater inequality at the provincial and city level. |
