Abstract Medicolegal workload is an important task that uses medical knowledge to resolve legal issues for patients and deaths. General practitioners (GPs) often face problems working on this task due to lack of forensic skills and experiences. With consequences of Thai Medical Council Regulation for medical practitioners (2002), medicolegal workloads, self-evaluation of confidence and the ability to work have never been studied. Questionnaires were sent to 87 interns, who graduated from MEDSWU in 2008 (Alumni 19th). With 93.1% (81/87) return, most responders work in public hospital. Most frequent medicolegal workloads (expressed as monthly frequency; with self-confidence assessment of score 5) include writing medical records (58; 3.77), medical certificates (40; 4.09), wound investigation records (16; 3.77), death certificates (4.9; 3.61), and scene investigation (0.87; 2.95). The average self-assessment is 2.9. The most frequently needed forensic reviews (> 75%) prior to graduation are body assault, blunt/sharp/gunfire injury, traffic accident, rape, fall, toxicants and electrocution. The significant factors that affected medicolegal workload are summarized as personality, equipment, technology, social and environment. From this study, we can design the course syllabus of Forensic Medicine to increase the effectiveness of medical students. However, knowledge and skill of medicolegal workload should be promoted to improve the competency of the first year interns in training program
