| Abstract | Hearing impairment and refractive error were the significant dilemmas of students.These dilemmas seem to increase gradually. Screening test was one of the preventions. Theobjective of this study was to describe the prevalence of hearing loss and refractive erroramong students according to gender and age group.This study was cross sectional based on the student in Ongkharak district, NakhonNayok province age group 6-18 years old totally 6,821. The students were examined visualacuity by Snellen's chart and also the hearing test by portable audiometer including ear canalby otoscope. The prevalence of hearing impairment was 11% and refractive error was 10.4%.The odd ratio of hearing impairment and refractive error in girls comparing to boys were 1.8295%CI (1.51-2.19), 4.49 95%CI (3.47-5.81), respectively. The number of hearing impairment ofyounger group was more than the elder group. Whereas the number of refractive error of agegroup 9-12 years old was less than age group 6-9 years old, significantly. In conclusion, the prevalence of hearing impairment of girls in Ongkharak district,Nakhon Nayok province was above boys 0.8 times approximately while the refractive error wasabove boys 3.5 times approximately. The prevalence of hearing impairment was found inyounger age group more than elder group and refractive error was found frequently in agegroup 9-12 years old. |
