| Abstract | This descriptive research aimed to study knowledge, attitude and perceptions ofadolescents to parents'sex education. The sample, chosen by stratified random sampling, were356 students. They were 13 to 15 years of age and attending secondary school at the end of thefirst semester,2003 in Aumphermeung, Mahasarakham province. The instruments werequestionnaires included 2 sections. 1) General information about the students and family.2) Adolescents ' perceptions to parents given sex education. The data were analyzed in form ofpercentage, mean standard deviation and chi square test The findings were found : 1. Adolescents significantly difference knowledge of sex education and adolescencesexuality at p value < 0.01. There had a moderate level. 2. Adolescents significantly difference attitude toward parents'sex education at p value< 0.01. There had a moderate level. 3. Adolescents' perceptions toward parents' sex education were. 3.1 The contents of sex education given to adolescents by parents were mostlyaimed to " how to dress appropriately " (97.2 %) and the parents did not teach their childrenabout sexual needs and sexual drive avoidance (70.2 %). 3.2 Parents 'methods of giving sex education to their adolescents usually weremostly integrated into daily life (70.4 %). Most parents did not give their children document ,book, or other media to learn about sexuality (92.0 %).181 Journal of Medicine and Health SciencesFaculty of Medicine, Srinakharinwirot University(Vol.13 No.2 August 2006) 3.3 Adolescents' problems in parents' sex education were that their parentswerereluctant to give sex education. Some parents were not sure if the information was correct.The results indicated that most families with adolescents had knowledge, attitude, andmethods of delivering sex education were problematic. Families need to be encouraged andsupported to develop their ability to deliver more effective sex education for their adolescents. |
