| Abstract | An early diagnosis for Leptospira spp., the causative agent of leptospirosis,was developed on the basis of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Various primerswere used to amplify specific leptospiral DNA, for examples, primer A/B and primerC/O used for amplifying specific Leptospira rrs (1 6s rRNA) gene. Prime G1 /G2 and864-1/864-11 were used for amplifying specific pathogenic leptospiral DNA. The otherprimers could amplifying serovar-specific DNA and DNA of closely related serovars.The asssay was able to detect as few as 10 bacteria. In additioning, PCR techniquewas evaluated for the detection of leptospires in clinical samples from patients andanimals with acute leptospiral infection. |
