| Abstract | Diabetic mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by disturbances in traffic of fuels, primarily as affected by insulin. Certain cutaneous disorders occur in diabetic patients specifically in relation to hyperglycemia and hyperilpidemia such as hemochromatosis, porphyria cutanea tarda etc., and are reversible when these abnormalities are corrected. Consideration of cutaneous manifestation of diabetes may be divided into those that accompany acute metabolic derangements and those that correlate with the presencr of chronic degenerative complications. In addition, there are dermatologic disorders that occur more frequently in diabetics but that do not correlate with either acute metabolic derangements or degenerative changes. |
