| Abstract | Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is recognized as the highest threat for human life today with a large people killed. It is rapidly spreading out widely areas including the people who are living in rural area through several mechanisms including population movement in some occasions. Chiang Rai Province is located in rural northernmost of Thailand having long border with neighboring countries. The study aimed to assess the readiness of young adult people living in Chiang Rai Province in response to the epidemic of COVID-19.Methods: A cross-sectional study was used to collect data from the participants. The study setting was Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Those people aged 18-23 years lived in selected villages and a university were invited to participate the study. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data from the participants. Chi-square was used to detect the associations between variables at the significant level of a=0.05.Results: A total of 315 participants were recruited into the study, 65.7% were females, 54.0% were aged 20-21 years. One-third had a chronic disease (34.6%), and had been immunized of flu vaccine in 2019 (32.1%). A few people were diagnosed as flu in 2019 (2.9%) and 2020 (1.6%) respectively. Majority received the information relevant to the COVID-19 through the television (51.7%), and internet (41.3%), however, only 31.1% responded that having sufficing information. Majority had poor level of the knowledge regarding the COVID-19 prevention and control (67.9%), and a few people had good perception on prevention and control the COVID-19 (1.6%). While only 29.5% had good preparedness skills for the COVID-19 prevention and control.Conclusion: Young adult people in Chiang Rai Province are living with poor knowledge, perception and preparedness skills to prevent and control the COVID-19. Effective prevention and control measures are required to prevent the people in rural area such people living in Chiang Rai Province form the infection of COVID-19. |
