| Abstract | The paper analyses the existing relationships between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, studies the dynamics of integration, clarifies the external factors affecting these processes and key problems the member states have to deal with. The study highlights the role of China and its Belt and Road Initiative as the central driving force behind integration. Having assessed the degree of convergence of the EAEU member states, we find that the level of convergence between them is decreased, which is indicative of the EAEU territory lacking catch-up integration processes. The EAEU nations are more inclined to interact with China, cooperation with which is supported by financial resources. The paper identifies the core challenges and constraints of China's Initiative for all the participating states. It also substantiates the need for strengthening support for the technological and innovative development of Russia and the EAEU nations to form competitive advantages in the dialogue with China on integration. |
