| Abstract | The Studies Anabolic Steroids Adulteration In Whey Protein Supplements in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. The objective was to study adulteration of Anabolic Steroids including Oxymetholone, Oxandrolone and Stanozolol. Study the correctness of food registration a food serial number (FDA number) and protein content compared to label of Whey Protein supplements available in Nong Bua Lamphu Province. Methods: It is Cross-sectional descriptive study in 2021, A Purposive sampling method by choosing 20 samples of Whey Protein supplements Available in Nong Bua Lamphu Province, and Determination of Anabolic Steroids adulteration by Thin Layer Chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography and protein quantification by in-house method SOP no 20 02 360 based on AOAC (2019) 991.20. Statistics used descriptive statistics. Results: A study of 20 samples of Whey Protein supplements found 5 samples accounted for 25 % did not have a food serial number (FDA number). The analysis revealed that 5 samples were adulterated with Anabolic Steroids, 1 was adulterated with Oxymetholone and 4 were adulterated with Stanozolol, Oxandrolone adulteration not found, and 2 samples with lower protein content than those shown on the label were found. Conclusion: In Nong Bua Lamphu Province Whey Protein products are also sold without a food serial number (FDA number). The analysis also revealed that there are adulterated two types of Anabolic Steroids, Oxymetholone and Stanozolol, which in Thailand and some countries are classified as specially controlled drugs. Some products have also been found to contain proteins below the legal limit. Selling such dietary supplements is illegal in Thailand. Although the dangers of consuming such products are unclear. But it is a problem that consumers must be careful in choosing to buy. Suggestion: This study did not cover Whey Protein supplements or the types of anabolic steroids currently available. Anabolic steroids adulteration in Whey Protein production has not been studied until marketed. There is also a lack of clinical effects studies in people who use the adulterated products of Anabolic Steroids long-term. There should be more studies on such issues. For the Post marketing surveillance. Government officials should enforce the law and announce the analysis results for the public to know. Collaborating with entrepreneurs to be able to verify product authenticity before selling and there are channels for notifying information or product complaints. to create a mechanism for surveillance by consumers. So that operators can inspect or suspend the sale of dangerous products. |
