Abstract The effective replenishment of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for hospitals to have adequate pharmaceuticals and medical supplies under the budget is very crucial for every hospital. A community hospital located in Ratchaburi province has only one replenishment system that has been applied to all pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. It led to high inventory costs and long inventory holding lead time. On the other hand, shortages of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies were found. This research aims to develop an effective pharmaceuticals and medical supplies replenishment system in order to have sufficient inventory for its services while having the appropriate inventory costs. Materials and methods: The ABC Classification and VED Analysis method were used to classify the pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. Demand forecasts consisted of the Holt-Winter's Method, the Simple Seasonal Method, and the Croston's Method. The Order Up-To Level method, the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and the Silver-Meal Heuristic method were utilized to develop the pharmaceuticals and medical supplies replenishment system. Results: The demand patterns of the pharmaceuticals are different in terms of seasonal, trend and one medical supply has demand for some periods. As the result, the pharmaceuticals and medical supplies need to be applied with different forecasting methods and replenishment systems. Conclusion: From the analysis of the nine-item-pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, the proposed methods could reduce the average inventory cost of the pharmaceuticals and medical supplies by 1,148,373.97 Baht and decrease the average inventory holding lead time by 113.84 days.
