Abstract Tourism has a significant long-term impact on the sustainability of local food culture and heritage. While it provides economic opportunities, it can also undermine traditional gastronomic customsand dilute cultural authenticity. The rapid expansion of tourism exposes local communities tovulnerabilities, threatening livelihoods and cultural preservation. The incorporation of culture intotourism frequently fails to capture the true spirit of communities, resulting in a Westernized versionthat caters to tourist preferences. This article investigates the negative effects of tourism on foodculture and heritage, emphasizing environmental degradation, cultural dilution, and economicvulnerability. The study also looks into the concept of heritagization, which occurs when traditionalactivities are commercialized and altered to meet tourist demands, compromising cultural integrity.Recommendations are made to mitigate these negative effects and promote sustainable tourismpractices that respect and preserve the local culinary traditions.
