Abstract This study investigated the history of the Saloh Saw Seung Folk Music Long Nan Band in Charim Subdistrict, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province. The study was conducted through document and field study. Observational and interview data obtained from experts, faculty heads, senior musicians, musicians, employers and audiences are presented through descriptive analytical methods. Results of the study showed that the band has historically been managed through three successive generations. In the first generation, Khun Ta Sawang Rinsan and his relatives set up a Saloh Saw Seung band popularly known as Wong Saloh Saw Seung Ta Sawang. During his time, Khun Ta Sawang transmitted all his musical knowledge to his descendants. After his death, the knowledge was passed to Mrs. Ja Inthachan, who, later on, passed it on to her son, Mr. Trairong Inthachan, the current leader of the group. They provided accompaniment for international bands and folk bands. Such a combination made the band very popular today. The results also revealed that the players in the band are able to play many more songs both for dancing performance as well as for improvised performance. First, the musicians tuned the strings of the electric guitar, then turned up the volume and turned it on to the loudspeakers. The band has played at both auspicious and inauspicious events. The results clearly revealed that Singer or Chang Saw excels at composing music and doing improvised performance. Interestingly, the band has adjusted itself to meet the changing social conditions, traditions, and rituals that result from cultural and social interaction.
