| Abstract | This study aimed to (1) examine the operational quality of the Journal of Politics and Governance based on the evaluation criteria relevant to Scopus indexing and (2) propose development guidelines to enhance the journal's readiness for inclusion in an international indexing database. A mixed methods research design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from 30 scholars and researchers who had previously published in the journal using purposive sampling and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five experts in academic journal management and analyzed using content analysis. Findings from both phases were integrated through triangulation. The findings indicated that the overall operational quality of the Journal of Politics and Governance was at the highest level, particularly in journal management and the peer-review process, both of which were consistent with international publishing standards. Nevertheless, several areas require further improvement, including strengthening the international composition of the editorial board and reviewers, expanding international academic collaboration, improving Open Access publishing practices, assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all published articles, and enhancing the journal's visibility in international databases. Based on the integrated findings, four strategic development dimensions are proposed: journal management, the peer-review process, internationalization, and publication and accessibility. Furthermore, short-, medium-, and long-term strategic development plans are recommended to improve the journal in accordance with the Scopus evaluation criteria and to strengthen the international competitiveness of Thai academic journals. |
