| Abstract | This study examined the karyotype and standard idiogram of the Asian swamp eel (Monopterus albus) from Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province, Thailand. Nine specimens (four males, five females) were analyzed using chromosome preparation from kidney tissue with conventional and NOR banding staining techniques. Results showed a diploid chromosome number of 24 (2n = 24) and fundamental number of 26, consisting of one acrocentric pair and 11 uni-armed pairs. The karyotype contained 2 large acrocentric, 2 large telocentric, and 20 medium telocentric chromosomes with no sex-based differences. Ag-NOR banding revealed a single signal at the telomeric region of telocentric chromosome 7. The karyotype formula is 2n (24) = La2+Lt2+Mt20. |
