Abstract Landfill leachate contains high concentrations of organic and inorganic pollutants that poseserious risks to water quality and environmental health. This study investigated the optimizationof Fenton’s process for the treatment of landfill leachate. The effects of varying Fe²⁺:H₂O₂ molarratios (1:1, 3:1, 5:1, 10:1, 15:1 and 20:1) at pH values of 2, 3 and 4 were evaluated using ajar test apparatus. The experimental protocol involved rapid mixing at 150 rpm for 3 minutes,followed by slow mixing at 60 rpm for 30 minutes, and sedimentation for 150 minutes. Theresults revealed that the maximum removal efficiencies for chemical oxygen demand (COD)and color were achieved at pH 3 with a Fe²⁺:H₂O₂ molar ratio of 10:1 (8:10 mg/L) after 150minutes of sedimentation. The optimal dosage ratios were determined as [Fe] = 0.42[COD]and [H₂O₂] = 2.88[COD]. Under these optimal conditions, removal efficiencies were asfollows: COD 963.33 ± 4.16 mg/L (84.01%), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) 634.69 ±2.74 mg/L (84%), color 720.71 ± 0.44 ADMI (62.01%), turbidity 66.17 ± 0.10 NTU (49.87%)and total suspended solids (TSS) 125.04 ± 2.12 mg/L (50.52%). The novelty of this studylies in establishing site-specific optimal operating conditions for landfill leachate treatment inThailand, demonstrating that pH 3 with a Fe²⁺:H₂O₂ ratio of 10:1 provides superior pollutantremoval compared to previously reported conditions.
