| Abstract | Before becoming the author of In Search of Lost Time, Marcel Proust had published commentaries and translations, from English to French, of John Ruskin, the art historian. In partial of Master of Arts in French-Thai translation at Thammasat University, we translated in 2020 the long Preface of Marcel Proust composed for John Ruskin's "The Bible of Amiens". During the process of our translation and interpretation, we were questioning the passages describing the sculpture of the Vierge doree decorated with hawthorns, which will give the symbolic meaning of the hawthorn in In Search of Lost Time, especially the scene of Gilberte Swann before the pink hawthorn. |
