Abstract | Objectives: This study aimed to study the prevalence of anemia in the different period of pregnancy and also indicated precipitating factors that caused failure of anemia prophylaxis in antenatal care.Materials and Methods: This was a longitudinal prospective study enrolled total 130 pregnant women who visit antenatal care (ANC) clinic from November 2020 to August 2021. A questionnaire was completed during the third trimester and complete blood count was evaluated at each period of pregnancy: in first ANC, during third trimester and intrapartum period. All data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 22.0).Results: The prevalence of anemia in first ANC, third trimester and intra-partum was 6.92%, 24.62%, and 4.76% respectively. Poor compliance of iron supplementation and clinical morning sickness were associated with anemia in the third trimester of pregnancy.Conclusion: Anemia in pregnancy remains an urgent public health problem in Thailand. Strict compliance with iron supplementation is vital for preventing anemia in pregnancy. |
