Abstract | The main purpose of this paper is to find out whether the letters written by CEOs to employees reflect the true leadership style of those CEOs. We use simple thematic analysis to review thirty-six letters of renowned CEOs. Results suggest that the language and words used by CEO's to communicate with employees have thematic meaning that ultimately reflect the CEO's leadership style. The findings can assist a practitioner in finding appropriate words to use when he or she is seeking to accurately portray his or her leadership style through their words. Moreover, the findings will also be of benefit to scholars and academicians who are seeking to teach and build leadership communication skills. All CEOs in the study are male, so feminine influence was not studied. Moreover, data was not collected from workers or employees to know their perceptions about the CEO's leadership style. The originality of this paper is that it provides a starting point for those who are interested in studying leadership related to communication with followers. |
