Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in phonics of elementary school teachers. Participants involved were 33 Thai and Native-speaking teachers. The research instrument used was The Phonics Teaching Questionnaire. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive statistics of mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) whereas qualitative data was analysed using content analysis. Findings from the questionnaire reveal that the overall mean score of phonics teachers’ knowledge of phonics, knowledge of pedagogies, and knowledge of students were all at a ‘good’ level according to the criteria used, resulting in 3.20, 3.09 and 2.99 respectively. The finding showed that out of these three aspects of PCK in phonics teaching, phonics teachers’ knowledge of students ranked the lowest mean score; this should be addressed by educators and teachers in order for improvements and progress to be made.
