Abstract | This is an article on the role of ASEAN, the role of ASEAN in resolving disputes in the South China Sea. The objectives are: 1. To study the background and origins of conflicts and disputes in the South China Sea between China and 5 ASEAN member states, 2. To study the role of ASEAN in resolving disputes in the South China Sea. The study has found that it is ASEAN's duty to resolve disputes in the South China Sea. It is considered important in order to achieve peace within the South China Sea area due to the strategic importance of the area. It is located in the ASEAN region including being an important place economically. But to create peace, every country must cooperate in giving importance to these areas within the legal framework and international guidelines. Solving problems by peaceful means and promoting the South China Sea as a sea of peace, prosperity, stability, and sustainable development (Sea of Peace, Prosperity, Stability, and Sustainable Development), and supporting functional cooperation and management of areas, especially natural resources, for public benefit. But no matter what at present, in addition to countries in the area that want to have control over the area, they will also have to face the arrival of powerful powers such as China and the United States that want to gain power within the area due to economic benefits and countering the power of the two superpowers that want to have power over the said strategic area. |
