Abstract The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of organizing choice-based art education learning towards critical thinking skills for creation of artworks by fourth grade students. The target group was 16 fourth grade students who studied at Sasipa School. The study lasted for a duration of 6 weeks, with each experiment lasting for 100 minutes and performed once per week. The research methodology and instruments included, 1) an interview form of expert opinions related to art education learning, 2) choice-based art education learning lesson plans, 3) a critical thinking assessment form, 4) a creation of works assessment form, 5) student questionnaires related to the satisfaction of choice-based art education learning, and 6) an interview form related to student satisfaction towards choice-based art education learning. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, percentage, standard deviation) and a repeated measure ANOVA. The findings showed that after organizing choice-based art education learning, the target group obtained higher mean scores in both critical thinking skills and creation of works (p < 0.05).
