Abstract 1. Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is an important global crop commonly grown in Africa and South East Asia, including Thailand. The valuable starch extracted from cassava storage roots is used for many industrial purposes, resulting in increased demand for starch-enriched storage roots. However, cassava production faces the threat of pathogens, one of which is the cassava brown streak virus (CBSV), which can lead to substantial yield and quality losses. 2. thus, systems biology approach was applied in this work to investigate cassava responses during viral infection, by integrating cassava gene expression data into the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Changes in the cassava protein interactome in control (0 DAG), and at early (5 DAG), and late infection (45 DAG) were studied. A total of 1,702,892 interactions among 16,506 proteins were identified in control, and the amount increased to 2,454,592 interactions (19,905 proteins) at early viral infection, before decreasing to 1,321,954 (14,726 proteins) at late infection. The protein interactome subnetworks relating to disease resistance proteins and NAC transcription factors were used to demonstrate plant protein interactome response to viral infection. This study would enable us to comprehend plant responses to viral pathogens and shed light on the efficient development of early warning systems to protect plants from viral diseases in the future.
