Abstract Two strain of Bacillus subtilis NSRS 89-24 and NSRS 89-26 were originally isolated from a native rice seed, Choa Boa, which was collected from Nakornsrithamarat Rice Experiment Station in 1987. These two strains showed the remarkable results in inhibiting Xanthomonas camperstris pv. oryzae in vitro and reduced the incidence of lesions on the inoculated leaves in the greenhouse. In vitro tests, these bacteria exhibited strong antagonism to field isolates of seven fungal pathogens of rice. Bacterization resulted in the effective biological control of seed borne pathogens of rice. The enhance growth of rice from bacteriatreated seed in attributed to supress of seed borne pathogens and also exhibited some incidence in stimulation of the growth of the plants.rnIn upland condition, using a mixture of Bacillus in applying to aerial surfaces of rice plants and brodadcasting into soil before seeding, the antagonists showed a remarkable ability to reduce the disease incidence. These investigations lead to the research in which to develop methodology and technology in producing bacterial and fungal inoculum which could be stored in room temperature over a year for the utilization in farmers' needs.
