Abstract The primary objective of this study was to develop improvisational exercises for elementary piano learners. This study employed the research and development method. The samples were piano teachers teach piano students in Grades 4 to 6. The data collected were then analyzed using the content analysis approach and presented in an essay format.The findings were: 1. In the development of improvisational skills training for primary piano learners should consist of 4 steps. However, in this research, the training developed in only 2 stages, R1 D1 / R2 D2, as follows: 1.) Study data for use in developing the practice [R1] 2.) Develop practice exercise D1 [D1] 3.) Evaluate the exercise and use the results to redevelop the exercise [R2] 4.) Summarize results of training development D2 [D2], and 2. Evaluate results of exercise D2 and other recommendations by eight piano teachers and the evaluation found that the exercise D2 was at a good level. (M = 4.1, SD = 0.97)
