Abstract | This research titled “Troop Inspection Dance in Pantang Drama: King Rajathirat” aims to study the troop inspection dance performed by King Rajathirat as depicted in pantang drama. The study employed qualitative research methods, including document and literature review, field observations, direct transmission of dance movements, and interviews with relevant individuals. The collected data were then analyzed, categorized and interpreted accordingly. The findings revealed that the troop inspection dance of King Rajathirat consists of several key elements: performers, costumes, musical instruments, stage formations, and specific techniques of the dance. The core movements include the “square foot posture,” the “preparation command gesture,” and the “marching formation,” which are considered traditional sequences that form the foundation of the dance. Additionally, naturalistic gestures such as “beard stroking” help convey meaning to the audience with ease. There are also transitional movements that connect the core gestures, enhancing the fluidity and beauty of the overall performance. Apart from the choreography, the troop inspection dance requires specific pantang drama techniques—such as leaning, shoulder tapping, and shoulder rocking—to synchronize with music and vocal narration. The performance of King Rajathirat’s troop inspection must incorporate all these elements to reflect the complete and refined form passed down by traditional dance masters. |
