Abstract | This study aims to: 1) examine the level of political participation among women in Pathum Thani province, 2) analyze the factors influencing women's political participation in the area, and 3) propose development approaches to enhance women's political engagement. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, drawing on the concepts and theories of Norman Nie and Sidney Verba. For the quantitative study, the target population consists of women aged 18 and above residing in Pathum Thani province, totaling 632,655 individuals. The sample size was determined using Krejcie and Morgan’s table, resulting in 384 participants. Meanwhile, the qualitative study involved interviews with 15 individuals, including female government officials, housewives, and female politicians in the province. The research tools included questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that: 1) The overall level of political participation among women in Pathum Thani was high. When examined by category, four aspects were rated high, while one aspect was rated moderate. The highest average score was found in the social environment factor, while the lowest was in the political environment factor. 2) Women's participation in political activities was generally at a moderate level, with two aspects rated high and two aspects rated moderate. Voting had the highest level of participation, followed by interactions with government agencies. Conversely, campaign activities and participation in certain organizational events had the lowest levels of engagement. 3) The analysis of influencing factors indicated that communication, social environment, and political environment factors significantly impacted women's political participation. However, socioeconomic factors and psychological factors did not show a significant influence on women's political participation in Pathum Thani province. The findings of this study can serve as a guideline for relevant agencies to promote women's roles in political processes and to design appropriate measures to encourage greater female political participation in society. |
