Abstract | This research aims to 1) study the Four Brahmavihāras (Divine Abidings) in Buddhism, 2) examine the current state of monastic administration in Nong Khon Kwong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udon Thani Province, and 3) explore the application of the Four Brahmavihāras in monastic administration in the same area. This qualitative research gathers data from documents and interviews with 25 key informants using structured interview guidelines. The data is analyzed through comparative analysis to identify relationships between findings.Findings:1) The Four Brahmavihāras The Four Brahmavihāras consist of Mettā (loving-kindness) the wish for others' happiness, Karuṇā (compassion) the desire to alleviate others' suffering, Muditā (sympathetic joy) rejoicing in others' happiness, and Upekkhā (equanimity) maintaining neutrality and accepting reality. These principles play a crucial role in ensuring effective and sustainable monastic administration.2) The Current State of Monastic Administration in the Subdistrict The administration of monastic affairs in Nong Khon Kwong Subdistrict has achieved success in several areas but still faces challenges related to resources and community participation. Issues include a lack of resources for Buddhist studies and Dhamma dissemination, as well as insufficient support for aiding the underprivileged and developing local infrastructure.3) Application of the Four Brahmavihāras in Monastic Administration The application of the Four Brahmavihāras strengthens relationships within the community. Mettā and Upekkhā promote harmony between monks and laypeople, while Karuṇā and Muditā encourage education and moral development. Implementing these principles in religious propagation and social welfare fosters peace, justice, and sustainable community development. |
