Abstract | This study aimed to examine the socio-economic characteristics, the level of knowledge regarding quality durian production technology, and the factors related to knowledge among large-scale durian farmers in Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province. Data were collected from a sample of 187 farmers using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were employed for data analysis, while the chi-square test was applied for hypothesis testing. The findings indicated that the respondents had an average age of 58.50 years, with most having completed primary education (26.20%) and possessing an average of 27.90 years of durian cultivation experience. The average cultivation area was 16.60 rai, with an average yield of 1,888.70 kilograms per rai. The majority of farmers (99.41%) primarily sold their produce through collection centers (Lhong). With respect to knowledge on quality durian production, the overall level of knowledge was found to be high, with the highest level observed in the area of durian cultivars (97.50%), followed by orchard and planting management (87.25%). Nevertheless, lower levels of knowledge were identified in areas such as pollination assistance, suitable soil pH and drainage conditions, growth control in less vigorous trees, and fruit age calculation from flowering to harvest. Factors found to be significantly related to the level of knowledge on quality durian production technology at the 0.05 significance level included age, educational attainment, and experience in durian cultivation. Based on these findings, it is recommended that agricultural extension programs emphasize the transfer of knowledge in areas where farmers demonstrate limited understanding. Furthermore, the design of knowledge dissemination strategies should consider farmers’ age and educational background, utilizing approaches such as on-site demonstrations, study visits, and peer learning exchanges to enhance the effectiveness of technology adoption. |
