Abstract | Sustainable development is a crucial concept aimed at balancing economic growth, environmental protection, and social equity for long-term sustainability. Sustainable development is not limited to national levels but requires active participation from local communities, which play an essential role in decision-making and natural resource management. Local communities can play a significant role in implementing projects that promote sustainable resource use and environmental conservation by participating in all stages of project design and implementation.Case studies from local communities in Thailand and abroad demonstrate successful sustainable development practices, such as the sustainable water management in Ban Bang Krabue community in Thailand and the agroecological farming initiatives in Bolivia. However, local development faces numerous challenges and obstacles, including lack of government support, internal community conflicts, and a lack of knowledge in resource management, which must be addressed for sustainable development to succeed. |
