Abstract | This research aims to 1) Study the history of Phra Wet preaching in the Isan region. 2) Examine the current state of the Bun Phra Wet tradition in Ban Ton Subdistrict, Rattanawapi District, Nong Khai Province. 3) Analyze the ethical aspects of the Bun Phra Wet tradition in Ban Ton Subdistrict, Rattanawapi District, Nong Khai Province. This qualitative research gathers data from documents and interviews with 20 key informants using an interview guide. The collected data is analyzed through comparative analysis to identify relationships among the information.The research findings reveal that1. The history of Phra Wet preaching in the Isan region Phra Wet preaching has its roots in Theravāda Buddhism, narrating the Vessantara Jātaka story in 13 chapters, chanted in both Pali and the Isan language. The chanting incorporates rhythmic tones and rhyming words to enhance engagement. The preaching is held in the fourth lunar month (March-April) as part of the "Twelve Heets" tradition, reinforcing religious faith and fostering community unity.2. The current state of the Bun Phra Wet tradition in Ban Ton Subdistrict The tradition has preserved its original identity while adapting to modern times. The event incorporates modern technology, such as sound systems and lighting, while still using local materials in processions. People of all ages participate in the event, which not only strengthens communal bonds but also stimulates the local economy and promotes tourism.3. Ethical aspects of the Bun Phra Wet tradition in Ban Ton Subdistrict This tradition fosters moral values at individual, family, community, cultural, and environmental levels. It promotes selflessness and ethical living. Religious and cultural activities strengthen family and community ties, ensuring harmony and unity. Furthermore, the event serves as a platform for passing down cultural heritage and religious values to future generations, ensuring the sustainability of society. |
