Abstract This study aims to examine the motivational factors affecting the performance efficiency of 108 employees at Central Department Store, Central Festival Hatyai Branch. Data collection was conducted using a structured questionnaire. The statistical methods employed for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that the employees exhibited a high level of overall work motivation (X̅ = 4.46, S.D. = 0.313). Both motivational factors and hygiene factors were rated at the highest levels. The overall performance efficiency of the employees was also found to be at a very high level (X̅ = 4.73, S.D. = 0.345). Key motivational factors that significantly influenced employee performance efficiency included responsibility and positive relationships with colleagues. Encouraging employees to take responsibility for their tasks and duties was found to significantly enhance work performance, making employees feel valued and motivated to dedicate themselves to their work. Good relationships with colleagues, classified as hygiene factors, played a crucial role in job satisfaction. In the absence of positive relationships, dissatisfaction may arise, negatively impacting work performance. The findings provide practical implications for management, offering a strategic approach to fostering a positive work environment that promotes high performance. Furthermore, this study contributes to the academic domain by expanding knowledge on work motivation, particularly through the application of Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory in the context of retail business employees.
