Abstract | The purpose of this study was to examine the needs and characteristics of enterprise technical designers and to propose guidelines for developing technical designers at vocational education institutions. The research tools included questionnaires and interview forms. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics (mean, percentage, median) and content analysis. The research findings showed that: 1) the vocational education policy should set a standard for technical designers to be employees who are highly skilled. Firstly, collaborations with design institutions should be formed to transfer the necessary technical knowledge and skills to develop the design course, and support instructor skills. Secondly, in order to participate in the evaluation of course content with the instructors, skills are required for designing the course, assessing skills, and training students. 2) The design of vocational education should include the following instructions; the admission to the curriculum should have general knowledge and basic artistic skills; teacher qualifications should include practical knowledge and design experience; the instructional technique should focus on real-life situations related to business design, and can be exhibited to the public, and the instructors should have experience in design to guide students. 3) In order to promote the desirable characteristics of technical designers in the curriculum, language skills for communication with colleagues should be developed. As a desirable personality, the technical designer should demonstrate patience, be polite, and endeavor to work and have practical skills coupled with creativity at work. |
