Abstract | This study aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory and health-promoting effects of plant-based Thai diets onoverweight and obese individuals. This was a prospective, clinical study to enroll overweight and obese individuals, randomlyassigned to consume either plant-based Thai diets as a nutrition intervention group or maintain their lifestyle diet group for 12weeks. The plant-based Thai diet group had significantly greater mean reduction than the control, with different changes from thehsCRP level baseline (p=0.0288) and homocysteine level (p=0.002). Plant-based Thai diets significantly decreased diastolicblood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HbA1C level and TG/HDL ratio during the 12-week visit (p<0.05). In addition, theplant-based Thai diet group showed a statistically significantly greater decrease in body weight, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, percentbody fat, fat mass and lean mass, compared with the control. The consumption of plant-based Thai diets demonstrated thereduction of inflammatory markers, hsCRP and homocysteine level and weight control effects. |
