Abstract | Polycaprolactone (PCL), is a biodegradable biomaterial that can be used to promote cell proliferation and differentiation. This study aimed to compare theclinical efficacy between a newly developed bilayered polycaprolactone (PCL) membrane with a CytoplastTM RTM collagen membrane for guided bone regeneration(GBR) with simultaneous implant placement. Twenty-four patients were randomized to test group (PCL) or control group (RTM). Primary outcomes were buccal bonethickness (BBT) immediately postimplantation and at 6-months using cone-beam CT and soft tissue surface dimensional changes (STC) at crown insertion, 6-months, and 1-year after loading using intraoral scanner. Secondary outcomes included clinical parameters, healing index, implant stability, pink esthetic score and marginal bonelevels. The augmented alveolar ridge was evidently success in both groups while slightly resorbed at 6-months follow-up. The percentage of reduced BBT were 32.38,25.94, and 23.96% in the test group and 34.42, 14.75, and 6.34% in the control group at 0, 2, and 4 mm from implant shoulder. Minimal loss of STC was observed in bothgroups up to 1 year of loading. No statistically significant difference was found between two groups in all assessed outcomes (p > 0.05). Bilayered PCL membrane was safe andeffective for GBR with implant placement. |
